Northpoint at Yishun

Northpoint Shopping Centre: This was the only shopping mall to be found in Yishun. It was situated next to the Yishun MRT Station and in 2010 an expansion was completed that comprised a new building that linked to the main shopping area. The building was constructed on a parcel of land found next to the mall. This expansion widened Northpoint Shopping Centre’s size and held more shops and, on its top most floor, a new library. In 1992 the shopping mall was opened to the public and was the first modernized suburban shopping centre situated in major housing estate. In the present, all housing estates now feature a standard suburban mall near High Park Residences.

Yishun 10 Cineplex: Situated aside the Northpoint Shopping Centre is the Yishun 10 Cineplex, which was opened to the public in may of 1992. The cineplex was, at the time, the largest multiplex to be found in Asia with its total of 10 screens. The Golden Village group operates the multiplex.

Chong Pang City: In Neighbourhood One you will find Chong Pang City, with its market, hawker centre and collection of shop houses. You will find a mix of large businesses High Park Residences, such as CK department store, Giant supermarket, Watson’s and Guardian pharmacies, MacDonald’s, and 7-Eleven’s, and small family owned and run business there. Until the arrival of Yishun 10 and the Northpoint Shopping Centre, Chong Pang City was considered the most complete and largest of any neighbourhood centres

Other Neighbourhood Shopping Areas: There are a variety of other neighbourhood shopping centres to be found, such as Neighbourhood Two’s Nee Soon East, Neighbourhood Eight’s Khatib City, and Neighbourhood Four. The typical core neighbourhood centres will usually consist of a variety of small family run businesses, coffee shops (also referred to as eateries), clinics, min markets, supermarket chains, salons and localized banks near High Park. Over the past few decades other mainstream businesses are finding their way to these locations, such as KFC, MacDonald’s and mainstream pharmacies.

Yishun Community Library: Yishun Street 22 was previously home to the Yishun Community Library. However, the library has been moved to its new Northpoint Shopping Centre locale. The new library offered a much larger area and a wider variety of books and served catering to the needs of the population of Yishun. It offers books for children and adults alike and has been opened to its public since 11 o’clock am. on November 14th of 2008.

Country Clubs and Sports Facilities

SAFRA Yishun Country Club: SAFRA owned Yishun Country Club has its focus on building camaraderie and moral for Singapore’s NSmen. Strategically situated in Yishun Park, the club offers its members a real feel of being out in nature. The club also offers a range of amenities, such as wall climbing, a bowling centre, tennis courts, a gym, Party World KTV and Western restaurant. SAFRA Yishun Country Club near High Park Residences, due to its ability to create a variety of options for NSmen, is more than likely to become an Adventure Sports hub amongst SAFRA club houses group.

New Facilities at High Park Residences

Orchid Country Club: This club is situated near the scenic views of the Seletar Reservoir. The club focuses on its goal to raise and improve the social status of its members. They offer activities, such as Paintball, as well as a bowling alley and a Chinese restaurant. Other member facilities include tennis courts, golf ranges, a swimming pool and a gym for High Park Residences.

Yishun Stadium and Sports Hall: The Yishun Sports Stadium, which opened its doors on January 2nd of 1992, can be found on the Southern tip of the town. It was host to the Karate event in Singapore’s 1993 SEA Games. In 1996 the stadium was the home base for Sembawang’s S-league Rangers FC. However, the Rangers were dropped in 2003 from the league. In 2005’s season it played host to the Young Lions, 2006’s season for Sporting Afrique FC, and is currently the home for Korea’s Super Reds Football Club from 2007’s season. The main stadium offers an 8 lane running track and soccer field, as well as housing a ClubFitt gym. Its sports hall is able to seat 800 people and is also available to be utilized for basketball, badminton and a range of other indoor sports.

Yishun Swimming Complex: The Yishun Swimming Complex opened its doors in 1988 and offers a children’s pool, a training pool and a competition pool that seats 403.
